Founder's Day Celebration

The 101st Birth Anniversary of Dr. Mary Verghese was observed on 26 May 2026 at the Rehabilitation Institute, Bagayam, with heartfelt participation from inpatients, alumni, and staff members of Rehab. The occasion served as a meaningful remembrance of Dr. Mary Verghese’s remarkable determination and lifelong commitment to transforming the lives of individuals who had encountered unexpected challenges and disabilities.

The programme commenced with an opening prayer and prayer song, setting a reflective and celebratory tone for the gathering. Dr. Judy, Head of the Department of PMR, addressed the audience and spoke about the significance of celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Mary Verghese. Quoting Dr. Mary’s inspiring words, “I asked for feet but God gave me wings,” she encouraged those present to embrace hope and perseverance in the face of adversity.

The programme featured a variety of presentations by Rehab patients, including Bible reading, dance performances, and other cultural events, reflecting their talents, resilience, and spirit of participation.

A special highlight of the event was the presentation of the Mary Verghese Awards to Rehab alumni in recognition of their exemplary achievements in categories such as Excellence in Peer Leadership, Excellence in Parasports, Excellence in Peer Mentorship, Excellence in Entrepreneurship, and Excellence Beyond Barriers. The award ceremony was a moment of immense pride and emotion, as each recipient held a memento symbolising not only personal milestones but also the transformative impact of Dr. Mary Verghese’s pioneering Eventsvision and dedication to rehabilitation.

Dr. Biju George, Director of Christian Medical College Vellore, graced the occasion

as the Chief Guest. In his felicitation address, he appreciated the enduring vision of Dr. Mary Verghese, which continues to be carried forward by the Rehab team, and commended the sincere efforts behind each programme presented during the celebration.
